Finnair travel retail service returns on 01 December

News

We are restarting our travel retail service on 01 December, offering customers even more choice and possibilities to personalize their travel experience.

We will offer a renewed travel retail pre-order service, with a great variety of products on offer to ensure every customer receives their desired item. The new luxury range has been inspired by Nordic design and sustainability and will be continuously updated and developed to ensure items are popular and relevant. Items include accessories and cosmetics from brands such as Marimekko, Makia (which makes bags out of recycled material), Rokua (organic skincare for men), Het-ki-nen (organic pine lip balm) and Lancome Idole Edp with refillable bottle.

This offering will be available on our intercontinental and European flights excluding flights to/from Arlanda and shortest flights with flight time less than about two hours.

Customers can shop before their flight through Finnair Shop on finnairshop.com or Finnair App. Pre-order purchase can be made by noon the day before departure from Helsinki and 3-5 days before departure to Helsinki. During the flight, pre-ordering for the return flight is easy through Nordic Sky portal.

As part of digitalizing services and to reduce aircraft weight and emissions of flying, printed catalogues are no longer available in the seat pockets and order forms are no longer used onboard.

Inflight trolley sales of travel retail products will be available on all long-haul flights and flights to/from Canary Islands and short-haul flights to non-EU destinations, with the exception of flights operated with ATR and Embraer aircraft, meaning inflight sales is not available on Norra operated flights.  Customers will able to purchase from a range of 17 best seller products including items from Iittala, Marimekko, Balmuir, BioEffect and Kyrö Distillery.

Finnair’s focus on sustainability has seen increased focus on managing aircraft weight, including the removal of printed inflight magazines and replaced by digital access through finnairshop.com, the inflight entertainment system and the Nordic Sky portal onboard.

By encouraging the pre-ordering of items and only having a small offering inflight, we will see reduced aircraft weight and emissions, and less waste. In April 2020, we suspended inflight retail trolley on flights within the EU in a bid to reduce aircraft emissions and fuel burn. As a result, 70,000kg less fuel is consumed and 220,000kg of CO2 emissions are saved annually (calculated on 2019 traffic levels).
