Finnair flies to Kajaani, Kokkola, Kemi, Jyväskylä and Joensuu from October to July

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency recently put out to tender the state-subsidized purchased services on Kajaani, Kokkola/Kemi, Jyväskylä and Joensuu routes. Finnair participated in the tender and was selected for all five routes.

The services are scheduled to start on 31 October. The contract period for the public service obligation is 31.10.2022 - 30.7.2023 and Finnair and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency are now starting contract negotiations for the implementation of the purchased service.

"It is good to remember that we are not returning to these airports as a commercial operator, but as a Public Service Obligation (PSO) operator," says Finnair's Sales Director Mikko Turtiainen. "We have already said in the past that we do not see the conditions to operate these routes as commercial Finnair services due to historically low demand, and this view has not changed. It is clear that everything we fly has to be economically reasonable, and that was the starting point for our offer in this case as well," Turtiainen adds.

The routes will be flown with ATR 72 aircraft operated by Norra, with 68/70 seats. The flights to Kemi and Kokkola will be operated as triangle flights.

"The aircraft size is quite large for many of these routes in relation to historical demand, but we hope that there will be enough customers to justify the flights from a sustainability point of view," says Turtiainen.

The planned schedules of the five regional airports connect smoothly with Finnair's network from Helsinki.

Flights are now available in GDS and NDC, where you can also see detailed schedules.
