Entry requirements to China

Chinese authorities have lifted all corona related requirements as of 01 November 2023  for passengers travelling to China. 

Finnair operates to Shanghai twice a week on winter season 2023/2024. Customers are able the check current travel requirements via Finnair Travel Requirements map

UPDATES:

31OCT23: There are no corona related requirements for arriving passengers as of 01 November 2023.

15NOV22: HELAP Transfer testing requirement lifted 13NOV. Q&A removed as transfer testing requirement ended.

05NOV22: Q&A simplified: All information that is provided to customers in paper leaflet upon arrival at Helsinki Airport is removed. Basic unnecessary info removed as testing process already routine. Info about entry requirements also removed as info can be obtained from the travel requirements map. 

03NOV22: Updated information in Q&A: As of AY87/04NOV Comfort package no longer includes any comfort elements, only the transfer testing. Removed all info related to old content of package and changed name of package to Transfer test package.

24AUG22: For those who have recovered, special conditions apply. Time range for that has changed from in less than 3 months to 14 days. Updated link added to Embassy's webpage.

19AUG22: If there are direct flights from your destination to China, you can choose whether to travel with a direct flight or via other destination to China. It is still good to remember that you’re still required to full fill QR code requirement. 

12AUG22: Q&A updated and added info about the Guangzhou operations which will start on 06SEP2022.

29JUN22: The Chinese authorities have removed the requirement of additional rapid antigen test.

04JUN22: As of 6 June 2022, new price for Comfort-package is 500€. 

23MAY22: IgM antibody test is not required anymore. 

23APR22: In the testing area, customers are recommended to use a face mask.

15APR22: As of 18 April 2022, the Chinese authorities imposed new test requirements and as of 21 April 2022 new price for the Comfort-package is 400€.

01APR22: It is good to know that exceptionally shorter EL MCT (less than 16hours) is okay for already existing AY1338 LHR-HEL-PVG bookings which have only 15h25mins EL MCT at HEL. This is informed only internally. 

For other bookings and for new bookings the following info is still valid: EL MCT (minimum connecting time) 16 hrs. extended until end of S22 (29OCT22). Sales is closed until 29OCT2022 for routes with less than 16h MCT. 

07JAN22: Passengers starting their journey from Helsinki are required to have two PCR tests instead of the previously required one PCR test and one IgM test 

30APR: Premium Plaza lounge at Helsinki Airport is open with restricted opening hours.

05MAR: 

Premium Plaza lounge at Helsinki Airport is closed from 8 March 2021 until further notice due to set by the Finnish authorities in the effort to prevent further spreading of coronavirus (Restriction involves all restaurants in Finland).

20FEB: As of 21FEB cross-testing process cancelled (single testing continues)  / QR-code mandatory at every station, already from the country of origin  / quarantine in Helsinki is 14-days / Test area at Helsinki will open at 19:30 / Q&A updated

03FEB:

  • As of 3 February 2021, Chinese authorities require some customers to have cross testing. In this case you will have two PCR tests and two IgM tests taken by the same nurse.
  • Children of all ages are required to undergo testing both in the country of origin and at the transit station. If the medical facility at the customer's point of origin has issued a special medical certificate, stating the reason for not being able to perform a test on the child, the child is still required to visit the Terveystalo testing facility in the Helsinki airport transit area, in order to obtain a certificate required for boarding. 
  • Price of comfort package has changed from 200 euros to 300 euros. Price is same for all customers despite the amount of taken tests.

11NOV20: Flights between Helsinki and Nanjing temporarily suspended from 20 November 2020 onwards.

Options for customer:

  1. Customer can travel to China via Helsinki but need to start the journey earlier than planned to allow enough time for testing and results during transfer at Helsinki Airport. Customer will automatically be offered a new inbound flight from Europe to Helsinki the day before the original flight, if there are alternative flights available. The flight from Helsinki to China will remain the same as in original plan.  
  2. Customer can change travel dates for later according to flexible ticket change policy.
