Published Updated

As announced in September 2021 we will introduce a cost recovery surcharge in the GDS Edifact distribution starting on July 5th 2022.
We have gathered here some questions and answers which will hopefully be helpful.

What is the surcharge amount and where will it be applied?

The surcharge will be 12€ per fare component (direction) and it will be applied to all journeys commencing in Europe sold using GDS Edifact technology.

Will the surcharge apply on existing reservations, created before 5th July?

The surcharge will be applicable to all the tickets issued on/after 5th July irrespective of the booking date. The only exception is reservations priced with tour operator fares where conditions allow to use historical fares.

How will the surcharge be collected?

The surcharge will be collected under code YQ and it will be automatically priced in the fare.

Will it be refundable in case of a refundable fare when we process as a voluntary request?

Yes.

Will it be refundable in case of involuntary requests (flight cancellations, major schedule changes)?

Yes.

Will this apply for changes made to tickets purchased before July?

If a new ticket is not issued (revalidation), the surcharge will not be added for tickets purchased on/before 4th July. If the travel changes results in new ticket issued (reissue), then the surcharge will be added.

There’s an exception for reissue of partially flown tickets: surcharge will not be added for tickets purchased on/before 4th July.

Interline: will the cost recovery surcharge apply on interline scenarios?

The surcharge will apply per direction when Finnair is the marketing carrier for at least one sector on the direction.  This will be the case irrespective of the ticket issuing carrier.

Codeshare: will the cost recovery surcharge apply on codeshare scenarios?

The surcharge will apply per direction when Finnair is the marketing carrier for at least one sector on the direction.  This will be the case irrespective of the ticket issuing carrier.

Is this also collected for infant tickets?

No.

How is the surcharge applied?

Per direction so for example: HEL to LON or BCN to HEL to SIN both would be 12€.

In case of reissue will the surcharge be added again?

No, surcharge will only be collected once per ticket.

Are there any other changes?

Light ticket type will no longer be available via the GDS Edifact channel.

How can I avoid this surcharge?

Finnair offers various ways to source content using NDC technology. These are connecting directly, using one of our Certified Aggregators or signing up for our agency tool FAST. More information on page How to connect (FAST will be available for Travel Agents to register starting from 4th of July 2022).
