Change in YR surcharge handling on Finnair's on long-haul flights (updated 6May)

Published Updated

Finnair will end collecting a separate YR surcharge (the so-called carrier-imposed fee) on long-haul flights and in the future the current YR amount will be included in the net fare.

The visible change is that the fare construction becomes simpler:

  • currently our long-haul fare is constructed “net fare + YR + taxes and fees”, e.g. 100 + 10 + 10
  • from the 6th of May onwards, our long-haul fares is constructed “net fare which includes the old YR + taxes and fees” , e.g. 110 + 10

The change does not require any actions from the agents nor customers as the published end fare will remain the same. For our corporate customers this change means that the corporate discounted fare will become lower as the corporate discount is applied to the net fare. We will not change our corporate customer’s discounts so the corporate customer will gain this benefit.

The change is effective for sales and travel as of 6th May.

However, the following should be kept in mind when processing reissues manually; in the future, when changing only the inbound portion of an unused ticket, current fare will always be used for re-pricing. Until now, in these scenarios, historical fare was used.

This change brings a simpler and more consistent reissue process:

  • when changing unused tickets = always use current fare and taxes
  • when changing partially used tickets = always use historical fare and taxes

The change is made on the Fare Filing level so Amadeus Ticket Changer will automatically follow the new policy for all tickets issued with the new filing. Manual reissues should follow the new policy.

This change will not apply to Siberian Joint Business (routes to/from Japan with JL, BA and IB),Atlantic Joint Business (to/from North America with AA, BA and IB) nor fares between Europe and China.

Update 6May
For already confirmed groups AY will add the YR on top of the net fare. The total fare of net and YR will remain the same as at the time of confirmation. Airport taxes will be determined at the time of ticketing. SSR GRPF -line remains in the original format for technical reasons . The change does not require any action from travel agents.
