Changed minimum connection times at Helsinki Airport as of 27 October 2024

From 27 October 2024, the minimum connection time is 40 minutes (previously 35 minutes) when customer changes from a Finnair flight arriving in the Schengen area to a Finnair flight departing from the non-Schengen area. 

The minimum connection time is 45 minutes (previously 40 minutes) when customer changes from a Finnair flight arriving in the non-Schengen area to a Finnair flight departing from the Schengen area. 

The minimum connection time remains 35 minutes when changing Finnair flights within the Schengen area and 40 minutes when changing within non-Schengen area.

Summary:

•    Non-Schengen > Schengen 40min > 45min 
•    Schengen > non-Schengen 35 > 40min 
•    Schengen > Schengen: no change, 35 min remains. 
•    Non-Schengen > non-Schengen: no change, 40min remains.

The Minimum Connecting Time (MCT) is defined as the shortest time interval required in order to a transfer customer and their checked baggage to make it from one flight to a connecting flight. 

Customer can see their connection time when booking flights on Finnair.com or Finnair mobile app.

The changes will be executed 9 September and the MCT change will appear in the reservations 10 September. 

How does the MCT change impact current and new reservations?

The customers who have made their reservation before September 10 regarding flights before and after October 27 will have the old MCT in their booking. Total customer impact: approximately 1500.

The new MCT will appear on reservations made 10.9. forward for flights October 27 onwards.

When making changes to customers booking which has been booked before the MCT change implemented in the system and receiving an alert regarding connection time under the minimum:

o     No need to make changes for the original segments. Original connection times are honored by Finnair.

These instructions also cover unticketed tour operator and group reservations, regardless of whether the deposit has been paid or not.
