Reminder for travel agents handling marine fares

Hotspot
Published Updated

There has been a change in the passenger type code for bookings for seafarers, which affects the information in our check-in system about the marine fares’ baggage allowance.

In addition to a marine reservation being priced with a dedicated pricing command, the passenger type code SEA must be used in the reservation after the passenger's name, in the form TRAVELER/THOMAS MR (SEA).

The use of ADT type as well as leaving the entire passenger type out will cause conflicting information in our check-in system; in the absence of SEA, the published Classic fare’s baggage quota (1PC) will be followed. The use of SEA passenger type in connection with a marine fare will continue to guarantee marine fare’s higher baggage quota (2PC).

UPDATES:

21Apr22: Above mentioned request for the SEA passenger type is still valid and is the preferred way to indicate that the passenger is a seaman travelling with a marine fare. This will guarantee a correct way of handling the passenger in our check-in system with correct baggage allowance for the passenger.
We have now, however, developed a simple backup functionality which ensures correct baggage allowance also in those cases where passenger type code SEA is missing when marine fare has been used. This functionality is now in use for Amadeus bookings and will be rolled out to other GDS bookings in the coming weeks.

30Mar21: Please note, the passenger type code should be used for new seamen bookings and there’s no need to modify old existing bookings.
In case the passenger is Finnair Plus member, the passenger name with passenger type should be added to the booking before inserting Finnair Plus number to avoid any name mismatch notice.
