Next steps on Finnair NDC journey

Finnair has today announced its ambitious targets to renew trade distribution utilizing the IATA NDC standard. NDC (New Distribution Capability) is a standard that enables agents to sell the full airline product offering to their end customers in a more personalized and digital way. Finnair has been actively developing NDC together with other industry partners since 2016, and as a constantly evolving capability new features are added on a continuous basis.

To accelerate the technology transformation and to recover cost of traditional distribution, Finnair will be introducing a surcharge in the Edifact legacy channel starting from July 2022. The surcharge will be applied for itineraries commencing in Europe and will be based on fare component. Surcharge per fare component will be 12€.

Lowest available price points, Finnair Light fare brand, will also be removed from legacy Edifact channel. All other Finnair fare products will remain available in Edifact. Finnair is actively working on modern NDC-only content, e.g. additional price points and the ability to bundle consumer offerings to trade partners’ customers. Finnair will launch more detailed information during spring 2022.

Partners have the possibility to source Finnair NDC content either by creating a direct connection to Finnair NDC APIs or by using one of Finnair´s Certified NDC Aggregators. Direct connection partners will enjoy the best trade content, supported by additional incentive packages. A web based portal for smaller IATA agencies will also be made available.
