Finnair to join Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme at Helsinki Airport

News

Accessibility is one of Finnair’s social sustainability objectives and we aim to provide equal access to our products and services for persons with reduced mobility or disabilities.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a simple tool for customers to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately apparent – and that they may need a helping hand, understanding, time or support.

The lanyards, which are bright green in colour and decorated with an easily recognisable sunflower design, are entirely voluntary and indicate to staff that customer may:

  • Need more time to process information or more time to prepare themselves at check-in, boarding or disembarking.
  • Need clearer verbal instructions, as it can be difficult to understand facial expressions and/or body language.
  • Need help reading departure boards or signs.
  • Benefit from more information on what to expect before, during and after their flight.

If your customer is departing from Helsinki Airport, they can find the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyards from Finnair check in desk with the universal icon of accessibility and can request them for free before traveling.

Customers wearing the lanyard at Helsinki Airport have the same access to services designed to assist persons with reduced mobility as those with visible disabilities. This includes the use of accessibility dedicated check-in desks and safety check lines, and the option for preboarding.
