Business Class carry-on baggage allowance goes up to 12kg

News

On 1 June 2023 we made some changes to our baggage allowance policy, including changes in carry-on baggage allowance and since then the Business Class carry-on baggage allowance has been 10kg. Now we are happy to announce that we will be increasing the allowance to 12kg as of 15 August.

The weight limit of 12 kg is also valid for tickets purchased before 15 August.

In Economy and Premium Economy Class, the weight limit of 8 kg remains unchanged.

Here is a short recap of our baggage allowance for all tickets purchased on or after 1 June:

Carry-on baggage

  • For tickets purchased on or after 1 June, the Business Class carry-on baggage allowance is 12 kilos, which may include one small bag (40x30x15cm) + one carry-on bag (55x40x23cm).
  • In Premium Economy and Economy Class, the maximum weight for the carry-on baggage is 8kg and may include one small bag + one carry-on bag (or only one small bag when travelling with the new Economy Superlight ticket within Europe).

Checked baggage

  • For tickets purchased on or after 1 June – regardless of the ticket type or travel class, also for Business Class customers – only one piece of a standard-sized and weighted bag is allowed as part of the checked baggage allowance. A standard-sized checked bag’s maximum weight is 23kg and dimensions are 90x75x45cm.
  • Any bag which is heavier than a standard 23kg bag (up to 32kg) or for example any sporting equipment such as golf bags or skis must be purchased as a travel extra. Also, sporting equipment cannot be checked in as part of the standard baggage quota anymore but must be purchased as a separate travel extra. Check the ancillary catalogue for the new SSRs which are available for the travel extras (for example CAOB for the extra carry-on when travelling with Superlight ticket, GOLF for golf bag, or XHBG for heavy bag up to 32kg).

Exceptions

  • On Finnair-operated journeys between Europe and Japan, China or North America, the baggage allowances remain the same as before (2PC or 3PC, 32kg each). However, the above-mentioned carry-on baggage allowance applies also on these journeys when the flight is operated by Finnair.
  • For tickets purchased on or before 31 May, the original checked baggage allowance applies.
