Brand-new Helsinki Airport Terminal 2 opens on 1 December

News

Our home hub Helsinki Airport is going through a total transformation to offer customers a modern, smooth airport experience – whether they are departing, arriving or connecting in Helsinki.

A great milestone in the development project lasting several years has now been reached, as the new Terminal 2 building has been completed.

The brand-new departure and arrival halls in Terminal 2 welcome travellers as of 1 December 2021. In the spacious, modern premises customers travel comfortably and at ease.

Finnair departure hall services moving gradually to the new departure hall

Starting 1 December, all departing customers will access the airport Terminal 2 through a new, beautiful entrance and departure hall. Arriving the airport by train, bus, taxi or car is made easy with everything nearby.

The drop-off point for taxis and cars will be in front of the new terminal building. Parking in front of the terminal is not possible, but there is plenty of parking space available nearby. The new parking hall P1/P2 is located right next to the terminal building. The new short-term parking is also close.

We will gradually move Finnair departure hall services to the new building as of 1 December. We continue to recommend advance online or mobile check-in for all customers. When arriving the airport, they collect the bag tags from one of our new, easy to use check-in kiosks in the new departure hall. They are then guided for bag drop and security in the current departure hall.

The priority, special assistance and check-in desks with our crew, bag-drop and security lanes continue to serve customers in the current terminal building until late spring 2022. However, the access to the current departure hall will be via the new entrance as of 1 December.

All arrivals through the new arrival hall

On 1 December, also the new arrival hall opens for travellers with an easy access to the train, taxi and bus stations and parking halls. Also, the car rental services will be in the new arrivals hall.

The baggage halls 2A and 2B remain in the current location for now. After picking up their bags, customers will continue to the new customs area and exit in the new arrival hall. Finnair Arrival Service is in a new location near the customs.

It is good to know that also the location of the Finnish health authorities’ coronavirus certificate check point will change as of 1 December. It will be near the baggage halls.

Helsinki Airport development project continues, and the next big step is in late spring 2022 when the new security checks area in the new departure hall will be taken into use. At the same time, Finnair’s all departure hall services will move to the new departure hall.
