Why NDC is not the endgame: Finnair takes the next step towards native OrdersFinnair has reached an important milestone in modern airline retailing. After progressing our NDC journey over several years, we are now taking the next step towards a more flexible, retail-driven future by introducing native Offer and Order capabilities powered by Amadeus Nevio. Finnair has released a native Offer and Order-based NDC solution on our pilot platform, Finnair Agency Sales Tool (FAST) (provided by our technology partner, TPConnects). This development marks a new phase in Finnair’s transition from legacy booking and ticketing processes towards Offers and Orders. For indirect sales, it is an important step forward and part of a broader transformation journey that will require continued collaboration among airlines, technology providers, aggregators, and travel sellers. While most of the development happens in the background, the first visible benefit for the travel sellers and customers is access to bundled products. In this release, the seller can purchase a Seat + internet combo when booking flights on the FAST platform, as part of the native Offer and Order flows. Additional seat-related combos will be introduced in upcoming releases. |
What this means for travel sellers and aggregatorsThe industry is in a transitional phase, with native Offer- and Order-based NDC evolving alongside legacy systems. As capabilities mature, indirect channels will benefit from more consistent servicing and better alignment across airline, aggregator, and seller systems. For travel sellers, the move towards native Offers and Orders will gradually introduce new products, servicing capabilities, and workflow improvements. As the ecosystem evolves, agencies may need to adapt internal processes, training, and mid- and back-office procedures to benefit from these capabilities fully. Aggregators play a critical role in making airline retailing capabilities available for travel sellers with the most up-to-date technological solutions. As Finnair continues its transition towards Offers and Orders, we encourage aggregators to:
The FAST pilot will provide valuable insights into how to introduce Offer- and Order-based NDC to selling platforms in a controlled and scalable way. We will share further updates as the pilot progresses and as new capabilities become available. Existing NDC booking and servicing flows will continue to be supported and further developed. We recognise that this transformation will not happen in isolation and will require close collaboration across the entire distribution chain. Finnair remains committed to modernising airline retailing together with our partners. NDC continues to be a key enabler, but the next phase of the journey is about moving beyond traditional booking and ticketing concepts towards true Offer and order-based retailing. |
