Finnair fares

Finnair’s journey towards improved distribution and ending all Edifact distribution is progressing well. While we are on our way towards modernized distribution, many of the ticket types and fares are bookable both via NDC and Edifact channels. Below you can find a summary of the current selection in each channel. It is good to note that our best offering for our travel agent partners is always found via NDC distribution.

Continuous pricing

We use continuous pricing on several routes in modern distribution channels – through Finnair’s own sales channels as well as NDC-enabled channels for agent partners. Through continuous pricing, customers will not experience large price increases between booking classes as pricing is not tied to the 26 legacy price points. This results in more competitive pricing in modern channels compared to offers through legacy Edifact. These price offers are not accessed through Edifact distribution.

Distribution cost recovery

To accelerate the technology transformation and to recover cost of traditional distribution, since 2022 we have been collecting a surcharge in the Edifact legacy channel. The surcharge of 15€ is applied per direction and per ticket during the first issuance. The surcharge will apply per direction when Finnair is the marketing carrier for at least one sector on the direction. This will be the case irrespective of the ticket issuing carrier.
The surcharge is automatically included in the price under the YQ code, where applicable.

How to avoid this surcharge?

We offer various ways to source content using NDC technology. These are connecting directly, using one of our approved aggregators or signing up for our agency tool FAST. More information on the options is available on page Get access to Finnair NDC.
