BUSES

Finnair has a bus connection on Turku-Helsinki and Tampere-Helsinki routes, and their timetables are designed so that customers can connect from the bus to our international flights and again from flights to the bus connection. The bus journey takes ca. 2 hours from Turku or Tampere bus station to Helsinki Airport and vice versa.

The bus connections from Tampere bus station (downtown) and Turku bus station (downtown) to/from Helsinki Airport are available in connection with a flight to/from Helsinki and are issued on 105-document. It is also possible to purchase the bus ticket separately from connecting flight (also to be issued on 105-document), but it is good to note that in this case passenger is not entitled to use the priority services at Helsinki Airport and we cannot ensure their flight connection in traffic disruption situations.

The connections are bookable through NDC and GDS channels.

Booking flow

Booking the bus connection in a new booking is done the same way as if it was a flight sector. Remember to choose Tampere bus station (XTP) or Turku bus station (XTZ) as the destination the passenger is travelling from or to.

Adding bus connection to an existing ticket is handled the same way as normal rerouting. Minimum connection time varies depending on the destination, and the availability will provide you with the right MCT.

Extra baggage which is not paid for in advance will be paid at the check-in kiosk in HEL.

Check-in

Check-in for the bus journey can be done at the same time when checking in for the flight. Check-in can be done in advance through our website or Finnair mobile app. Customer will show the boarding pass to the bus driver.

In case customer didn’t check in in advance, they can travel in the bus with their ticket. Customer will then need to check-in at the airport to receive the boarding pass for the flight.

Disruption

Disruption process is the same as normal; the bus is considered as a flight when it is issued on 105-document.

TRAINS

Finnair supports train interline connections through Edifact. This allows to combine a Finnair flight with a train connection in one ticket.

Cooperation is with train operators which are connected via mediator companies:

FlexFlight (W2) for Deutsche Bahn
Accessrail (9B) for multiple train operators

The "flight" number for the train connection will contain the IATA code W2 or 9B, not of the individual train operator.

FlexFlight (for Deutsche Bahn)

We have partnered up with Deutsche Bahn to offer convenient ways to combine train travel together with Finnair flight.

There are 2 interline products with Deutsche Bahn: Rail&Fly and normal interline.

Rail&Fly: The interline booking is made to/from IATA code QYG (generic code for German Railway). The W2 flight number is fictitious and does not correspond to an actual train schedule - it is basically an open ticket to any DB operated route. The final train line and date is chosen during train check-in. The Rail&Fly ticket is valid one day prior/after or on the day of departure/arrival. Pricing for Rail&Fly train segment is always the same; it doesn't matter if the train ride is long and fast or short and slow. More information is available on Deutsche Bahn website.
Normal interline: The interline booking is made to/from the IATA code of the specific train station. The train ticket is valid only for the specific train booked.

Booking flow

Booking is created with flight+train, which is either to/from QYG (Rail&Fly "open" train segment) or to/from specific railway station IATA code. The train ticket fare is already included in the fare of the chosen Finnair flight and is only valid in conjunction with the flight ticket. Make sure to allow enough time for transfer between train and flight segments.
Please note that for the “Rail & Fly” product, before check-in the itinerary on passenger’s ticket shows fictitious train number (starting with W2), departure point (QYG) and times for the train segment. This is not a valid ticket.
Check-in for the train segment can be done right after ticketing at https://rail-checkin.com/#/login and in case of QYG, the desired train connection must be selected.
It is not possible to add the train services after you have already made a flight booking.
Interline journeys involving a train sector can be rebooked in the same way as any other interline journey, according to Finnair fare rules. If the flight is rebooked after the train ticket has been collected, customer needs to change their train ticket at the Deutsche Bahn Travel Center at the train station.

Bookings are subject to Ticket Time Limit (TTL) reservation rules as set by the operating carrier.

Check-in

Check-in is done on https://rail-checkin.com/#/login

Check-in is open immediately after ticketing and closes before train departure for interline and codeshare destinations and at 23:59 of the departure day for QYG stations.

In case of Rail&Fly, passenger can choose the desired rail connection on the check-in website.

Disruption - train is late and missed the flight

If Rail&Fly is used as the first segment, then the arrival to the airport needs to be at least 2 hours before flight departure. If the selected train connection is scheduled to arrive less than two hours before the scheduled departure, Finnair is not liable for missed flight connection. In case of train delay, a delay certificate needs to be asked from the train conductor to be presented as proof for Finnair to rebook the flight.

Passenger must contact the local Finnair Ground Handling Agent for assistance at the airport.
In case of disruption from the train to the flight, the EU regulation 261/2004 is not applicable. Finnair will rebook passenger to the next AY flight but is not liable for further assistance or compensation (eg hotel).

Overall, it is the responsibility of the passenger to allow enough time to make the connection to their flight or train departure.

Disruption - flight is late and missed the train

In case of Rail&Fly, if passenger has not checked-in yet, they can just choose a train connection at a later time.

In case already checked-in with specific train connection or Rail&Fly, passenger must go to the local Deutsche Bahn Travel Center at the train station.

Accessrail (for multiple train operators)

We have interline through-fares with AccessRail for Air & Rail connections, which allow the customers to book flight + train connection on a single ticket.

The interline booking is made to/from the IATA code of the specific train station. The train ticket is valid only for the specific train booked. Rail&Fly product with open train connection is not available for 9B.

Book the Finnair flight and selected train together to/from specific railway station IATA code. Fares in the selected travel class will be shown in the same way as any air-to-air connection. The train ticket fare is already included in the fare of the chosen route with Finnair flight and is only valid in conjunction with the flight ticket. Before the trip, the customer needs to print out their train ticket or save it as a mobile ticket on their mobile device. An SSR message is included in the PNR with this information.

Passenger must contact the local Finnair Ground Handling Agent for assistance at the airport.
In case of disruption from the train to the flight, the EU regulation 261/2004 regulation is not applicable. Finnair will rebook to the next AY flight but is not liable for further assistance or compensation (eg hotel).

Overall it is the responsibility of the passenger to allow enough time to make the connection to their flight or train departure.

Disruption - flight is late and missed the train

In most cases the ticket will be valid on a later service. To retain an assigned seat, it's best to check with the local train ticket counter or train manager.
