New NDC version 21.3

Paving the way for the future

21.3 is the convergence version of the NDC API, boasting a lot of improvements and new features, such as fare benefits in OrderView, waitlist, order updates, name change and others to come. Version 21.3 is bringing NDC to a new industry standard.

We have already started NDC 21.3 implementations with several partners and the feedback has been positive.

You are warmly invited to contact us at ndc-support@finnair.com to start discussions for NDC 21.3 migration.

Updated documentation

We are continuously updating documentation relating to NDC 21.3, including implementation guides, starter kit, and new release notes on our renewed agent portal “Easy”.

Renewed easy.finnair.com

Your NDC & Finnair knowledge source

As we move toward the goal of NDC becoming our main indirect distribution channel, we are decommissioning our standalone NDC website (ndc.finnair.com) and have merged it with our travel agent portal easy.finnair.com. “Easy” is now your one-stop source for any NDC or general booking and product related questions you might have.

Call for action – review your aggregator capabilities

We kindly ask all aggregators to check if the information on our aggregator capabilities page is up to date. Please let us know if something is missing by contacting us at ndc-support@finnair.com.

New capabilities

New private fares

We are continuously expanding the list of available private fares in our NDC offers and we have recently added several new fare products. If you are interested in developing these on your platform, please reach out to our team at ndc-support@finnair.com.

  • FIT fares (POC JP)

  • BTA fares (POC JP)

  • BTA fares for Asian markets (excluding JP)

OrderChangeNotification updates

We have decommissioned the outdated REA codeset and are now using exclusively CHR and CHT codesets, providing much clearer notifications about changes to orders. Visit the OCN section of our AY NDC specificities page to have an overview of OCN codes currently in use. Also, have a look at our release note covering the latest changes.

As part of the decommissioning, REA code 9 has been retired and we now use CHT code 9 (passenger name modification). Make sure to remap the definition if needed.

Disruption handling updates

As a reminder, we support disruption handling that allows to acknowledge or exchange the alternate flights proposed by the airline after flight re-accommodation. NDC versions 18.1 and 21.3 are supported and we have recently updated our release note to highlight the differences between the two versions.

Additionally, we will shortly go live with disruption handling in our agency sales tool FAST, enhancing the servicing capabilities of the platform even further.

New NDC version

Get ready for NDC version 21.3

21.3 is the new future-proof version of the NDC API, boasting new features and capabilities. As we are gearing up for migrations and new implementations, we have uploaded new implementation guides and other useful documentation (with more to come) on Finnair Easy.

You are warmly invited to contact us at ndc-support@finnair.com to arrange a discussion for 21.3 migration.

New content

More NDC content available with interlining

It is now possible to create orders which include flight and train options with over 65 additional partner airlines. This improves content options available to our NDC partners supplementing existing AY and codeshare flights.

Published fares with flexible TTL

We have enabled published fares which have a flexible/longer ticketing (payment) time limit (TTL). To be able to utilize new fares, you must have repricing implemented. Please check the instructions here

Finnair NDC content now in the US

Finnair has enabled connection to ARC (Airlines Reporting Corporation) which allows US agents to sell and report AY NDC transactions in this market. At the same time Finnair NDC partners in the US benefit from improved content via NDC. Read more about it here.

Additional private fares in NDC

We continuously expand the list of available private fares in NDC. We have recently added AJB/SJB Tour Operator fares and Finnair’s Travel Industry fares – the so-called PEP fares. If you are interested in developing these on your platform, please reach out to our team at ndc-support@finnair.com.

Development

New offer ID formats coming soon – development may be needed

The ID format of the following fields will be changed in the first half of 2024 (exact date TBD): ShoppingResponseID, OfferID, OfferItemID, OfferRefid, OfferItemRefID.

Depending on your current coding, development may be needed to properly read these fields after the change.

Today, within the current versions of NDC, OfferID looks like "SLPM-7676563179477114481-2" and OfferItemID looks like "SLPM-7676563179477114481-2-4".

After the activation of this change, OfferID would look like "p9bNnD0pWeDGG_Vt0YRh5bQoFA71Y" and OfferItemID would look like "VCeGFLgIRf5OtluZ".

The amount and composition of characters will become random.

Reminder for disruption handling

As a reminder, we now support disruption handling that allows to acknowledge, exchange, or cancel the alternate flights proposed by the airline after a flight cancellation or delay.

Please check the release note for technical information.

The new Superlight ticket type will not be available in GDS Edifact.
