Name changes

Name change can be conveniently handled via chatbot, especially when departure is in more than 72 hours. To use that option, open chat from the bottom right corner and you can find Name change or correction for an existing ticket as one of the default buttons. The chat will guide you through the whole process. Chat is open for name changes 24/7.


Name change is done when passenger changes. In case of name correction for the same passenger, please see instructions for name corrections
Name changes are allowed for ticketed bookings only. In case a booking is not ticketed and passenger changes, a new PNR with current availability is created. 
Name change is possible in Finnair CLASSIC and FLEX type fares - whether name change is allowed or not is always specified in the fare notes. 
Name change is possible only before departure of the first flight and ticket must be completely unused.

Terms and conditions 

  • When combined fares on one ticket, the most restrictive name change rule applies. 
  • Fake names are not permitted and PNRs will be cancelled automatically. 
  • Allowed on flights marketed and operated by AY and Norra. Name change permitted also on wetlease flights when AY has leased an aircraft/crew from another carrier, e.g. Iberia on HEL-MAD and HEL-BCN routes. 
  • Name change must be requested by the original passenger or in some cases by the person who made the booking (e.g. secretary or travel assistant). 
  • If name is changed, chargeable services such as extra baggage and seat are lost. 
  • Only Finnair can update the name element. 
  • The charge for name change/correction is collected with EMD-S in the markets where EMD is available. 
  • In case of multiple AY tickets on same PNR (and name change allowed on all tickets), name change fee will apply per ticket. 

Name change fees 

The fee applicable for the routing is stated in the fare benefits (in NDC) or PE section in the fare rule (in Edifact). 
The fee is based on origin of travel and can be converted to local currency if the EMD document is issued outside the country from the origin of travel. 
Name change fee can be collected either before or after contacting Finnair Agent Help Desk. Please keep in mind that the fee must be collected on the same day as the name is updated in the PNR.

Name change fee can be collected either before or after contacting Finnair Agent Help Desk, as long as it’s done on the same day as the name is updated in the PNR.

  1. Collect the name change fee on EMD-S NAME (Sub code (RFISC) is D/115) 
    1. Creation of SCV element: IUAYNN1NAMELONHEL
    2. Create TSM-P:
      1. TMC/VAY/L2 (line number where SVC-element is)
      2. Add fee, coupon value & form of payment (example amount 50): 
        TMI/F50/CV-50/FP-CASH 
        (if name change of FI domestic ticket 10% VAT need to be separated TMI/F45.45/X4.55YFGO/CV-45.45/FP-CASH) 
      3. Add issued in connection with information: 
        TMI/IC-TKT1054444333222
    3. Issue EMD
  2. If the PNR includes frequent flyer number, the FQTV line needs to be removed before name change. 
  3. Contact Finnair Agent Help Desk via chat by selecting option “Name change or correction for an existing ticket” and follow the steps. For departures in less than 72 hours, make sure to select “Departure closer than 72h” in the chat or give us a call
  4. After we have received all the necessary information (primarily via chat), we will 
    - add an FO line for name change 
    - delete the FA line and change the passenger name element 
    - add SSR CKIN “Name changed from xxxx to xxxx dd.mm.yy” 
  5. Once you have received confirmation from Finnair to proceed, add "Name change" to the FE element and prepare TST for reissue. 
  6. Re-issue the ticket (0eur re-issue).
  1. Create a new PNR, original booking class may be used. 
  2. Collect the name change fee on EMD and insert document number in an OSI element: OS AY EMD 1058201141535 NAME CHANGE FEE. Element to be used depends on GDS. 
  3. Price the PNR, old fare can be used (manual pricing permitted). 
  4. In case of manual pricing, add “original first issue DDMMMYY” to the FE element. 
  5. Issue a new ticket and cancel the original booking. 
  6. Contact Finnair Agent Help Desk via chat at the bottom right corner of this page and select option “Name change or correction for an existing ticket” and follow the steps. For departures in less than 72 hours, make sure to select “Departure closer than 72h” in the chat or give us a call
  7. After we have received all the necessary information (primarily via chat), we will
    - add an authorization for manual pricing: SR OTHS ZZ-MANUAL PRICING DUE TO NAME CHG AUTH BY XX 
    - add SSR CKIN “Name changed from xxxx to xxxx dd.mm.yy” 
    - send you a confirmation with an authorization to refund the original ticket
